How to Apply for Funding
The promise of Susan G. Komen® is to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures. Since 1999, Komen Inland Empire has invested more than $6.4 million in local community programs throughout the Inland Empire. The Affiliate funds non-duplicative, community-based breast health education and breast cancer screening, diagnostic, and treatment projects for the medically underserved in Riverside and San Bernardino counties each year. In addition to funding local outreach projects, Susan G. Komen® runs one of the most innovative, responsive grant programs in breast cancer today. Our Affiliate is proud to have contributed more than $2.3 million toward research to date.
Our goal is to achieve equal care and access to excellent breast health care for all residents of the Inland Empire. To meet this promise, we rely on the information obtained through the creation of an in-depth community needs assessment. The result is the Susan G. Komen® Inland Empire 2015 Community Profile (full document available fall 2015) which guides everything from education and outreach, to grant making, strategic planning and public policy. All applications must be submitted online through the Komen Grants e-Management System (GeMS): https://affiliategrants.komen.org.
The grant application process is competitive. Whether or not an organization has received a grant in the past, funding in subsequent years is never guaranteed and depends upon the quality of this application, the quality of the applicant pool, ability of proposed grant project to fulfill specified community priorities (as outlined in the RFA) and the funds available for distribution. Recommendations for grant funding are made on behalf of an independent grant review panel representing the Affiliate service region.
