Komen Affiliates Urge State Leaders to Spare Neediest Women from Budget Cuts

Many of California's lowest-income women in their 40s no longer will be eligible for free breast cancer screenings by the state beginning New Year's Day. The recently announced cuts to California's Every Woman Counts program would effectively shut the doors to breast cancer screening services for 1.2 million low-income and uninsured women for the first six months of 2010. The Inland Empire Affiliate incorporated in 1998 and hosted its inaugural Race for the Cure® in 1999. Since its inception, the Inland Empire Affiliate has awarded grants totaling over $3.5 million dollars to local non-profit organizations in the Inland Empire to fund breast health education, screening and treatment.
